ALBUMS THAT CHANGED MY LYFE

(IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER OF WHAT AGE I DISCOVERED THEM)

Shitmat - Full of Shit (2010)

essentially what kickstarted my voyage into making choons (for better or worse) - mashup shitposting that no one asked for with the occasional sprinkle of "i'm really trying to make something here" and thereafter wholly forgetting what i was trying to do. this album is what i imagine jacking off on a previously browned couch in the background of an afterparty sounds like, a very extended wank that is.

Cardopusher - Unity Means Power (2014)

a raggacore klassik... perfectly hit me in that late teen noggin of wanting catchy but harsh and slightly tongue-in-cheek tunes, i had found myself in this one and it remains a small cornerstone of who i am today.

Squarepusher - Hard Normal Daddy (1997)

don't know if it's a valid entry as it's rather a pick for "Squarepusher's album with the highest amount of tracks i like" considering my favorite tracks span a buncha different albums. Squarepusher's tunes sparked my interest in a more industrial, alien-like sound i wasn't really fond of before; it vaguely works for me and makes it fun, atmospheric and sometimes emotional in a way most music that i've heard can't pull off.

Osamu Sato - LSD & Remixes (1998)

blatantly obvious pick. what is arguably my first dive into surrealism and IDM along with anything adjacent to it, which as you can tell by the previous and following entries, are my bread and butter. there's so much stuff here and i don't think there's ever a wrong time to listen to this, nor do i ever get tired of it.

Girls Love Breakcore - Girls Love Breakcore (2007)

apparently they do! not the most deliberate breakcore album i've heard, but it sure tickled my interest because i like nonsense. another, arguably slightly bigger cornerstone for me.

PASSENGER OF SHIT - PASSENGER OF SHIT 10 (2012)

a perfect album for when you feel like the universe is shit all the way down. think it speaks for itself otherwise.

RED.M - sp00ky 9 (2015)

an album that's disappeared from the interwebz (at least, you can't get the individual tracks anymore)... the best image i could find is in 240p... oooo... spoooookyyy... huffed it back when satanism was super interesting and cool to me (i think we all had that phase at some point, i'd be upset if you're still in it). but i do still like myself some spooky stuff, the album's bassy sound quality and haphazard sampling makes it a sound like a fun if messy halloween party.

nappychan - average classics (2013)

i don't know how, but this album has always stuck out to me. an engaging listen despite it's repetitiveness, a quality lo-fi hiphop often doesn't have for me (usually only works as background noise to relax/study to). it's like a flawless summer day.

Ten and Tracer - Sky Channel Transmission (2010)

my first time hearing an album that has such a strong emphasis on texture with a vaguely bittersweet mood to it. it's one of those you lie down and think to. my memories with this album are as if it were the calm after the storm; when i got tired of listening to loud crap and wanted to confront my thoughts instead of canceling them out with noise, leading me to dive knee-deep in ambient tunes, an area i had barely touched before...

Fleuve Noir - Le début de l'hiver (2017)

the album cover describes the sound to a tee - cold and bright. while i'm usually a bigger fan of "warm and dark" ambient work, i can't deny the heaven-like quality the former can manage to have. is it just paulstretched shit? maybe, but if it works it works.
